The Chrism Mass was celebrated in The Cathedral today, at 12 noon, just over half the priests of the diocese were present along with a good number of people gathered from across the Diocese. Bishop Mark invited all the priests present to renew their dedication of priestly ministry, before blessing the sacred oils to be used through out the Diocese during the coming year.

This afternoon The Cathedral was full! People had traveled from across the diocese to be here for the Rite of Election. Over fifty of those to be received into the Church this Easter had made the journey, along with their sponsors or Godparents, family, friends and parish priests. To see so many people making the choice to enter into full communion with the Church is a great sign of hope and commitment to the future. It was a great joy to be a part of their journey.

Where have the last couple of weeks gone? Already we are on the cusp of a new liturgical season, tomorrow is Ash Wednesday and the beginning of the great season of Lent. It is traditional to try and give something up for Lent, to use the time of self denial to bring us closer to the God who loves us. What are you planning to give up this Lent?
